The Black Chrome Mine is a well capitalised developing underground chrome mine having an approximated economically minable reserve in excess of 20 000 000 tons of chrome ore. The mine is loed on the farm Mooihoek in the central region of the Eastern Limb of the Bushveld Igneous Complex in South Africa's Limpopo province, 100km south east of the town of Polokwane.
Ore Beneficiating. Run of mine ore is upgraded through an ore beneficiation plant. The ore is crushed and screened into two size fractions, 120 x 20 mm and 20 mm. The 120 x 20 mm size material is upgraded through heavy media separation while the 20 mm material is milled to 1 mm and then upgraded through a spiral plant.

· Huge quantity of raw chromite ore is being mined and beneficiated in various chrome ore beneficiation plants throughout the world to er the customized needs of various ferro alloy plants. During mining and processing operations enormous quantities of fines are generated, which are of major concern from handling, storage and environmental point of view.
2. CHROME ORE SPECIFICATIONS The ore is of podiform deposit that has been highly tectonized, thus the small grain size chromites have extensive microscopic intergranular cracks. The binder or veinstone is mainly serpentine with small quantity of magnesia (MgCO3) in veins of chrome ore. Melting temperature of the ore is 1650 – 1660°C .

In addition to this, strikes at chrome ore mines, which provide the essential feedstock for ferrochrome smelters, have hampered the production in 2012. This has led major South African ferrochrome producers to enter into agreements with Eskom for reducing their production capacity and participating in the electricity buyback program.
· Unless chrome mining capacity is expanded, the smelting operations could soon face the challenge of insufficient feedstock in the form of chrome ore," Mutsvangwa said.
